Most of us could not say, not really. Without that it is hard to make good calls, let alone plan for something as big as a first home. So that is where we start: the full picture, then a plan.
Your money picture, your goals, and a coach that talks in plain words.
Budgeting that makes sense
A plan in plain words, built around your pay cycle.
Goals you can actually hit
Name the thing you want, and see what it takes each week.
A direct bank feed
Your spending sorts itself. Nothing to type in, ever.
Paagaa, on hand
Ask anything about your money. No dumb questions here.
Connect your bank
Read-only, so Paagaa can see what is happening but can never move your money.
See where it goes
Every payment sorted into categories. The full picture, no spreadsheet.
Get a plan from Paagaa
A first budget, a first goal, and the reasoning explained in plain words.
Paagaa plugs straight into your bank through New Zealand open banking, so your spending arrives on its own and sorts itself into categories. Nothing to type in, no receipts to keep, no Sunday night with a spreadsheet.
It reads, it cannot pay
Paagaa sees your transactions so it can sort them. Moving money is a completely different permission, and it is one Paagaa never asks for and could not use.
We never see your bank login
You log in on your own bank's page, exactly as you would to check a balance, and your bank tells us you approved it. No screen in Paagaa ever asks for your password.
Every account, one picture
ANZ, ASB, BNZ and Westpac today, with Kiwibank coming from December. Everyday, savings and credit cards land side by side.
Off whenever you like
Disconnect from your settings and we cancel the consent with your bank straight away, rather than just hiding the data at our end.
Willie and Natalie Leota, Co-founders
We have had thousands of conversations about money over the last 18 years. Some at a bank desk, with Willie's time in the finance industry as a mortgage adviser and banker. Some across our own kitchen table while bringing up our own family.
The same thing comes up every time. People are not bad with money. They just cannot see it clearly, and the advice that would sort it out costs more than most people have spare.
That is why we started the Fresh Moni podcast in 2024, to give it away for free. Willie hosts the podcast, which was named Best Business Podcast in New Zealand that year.
Paagaa is the next bit.
Honestly, it is the app we wish we had when we were starting our family and figuring out our own money. Your accounts in one place, a plan you can actually follow, and a real person when you need one.
Talofa. Glad you are here.
Who is Paagaa for?
Paagaa is for New Zealanders who know they should be across their money and have been quietly not being across it. Young professionals in their first proper job, young families running a household, anyone chipping away at a first home deposit, and anyone who has ever closed the banking app without really reading it. Started a budget three times and quit three times? Perfect. That is the whole idea.
Who is it not for?
People who genuinely enjoy a spreadsheet. You lot are fine. Carry on.
How much does Paagaa cost?
$8 a month or $96 a year, and you can cancel whenever. Join the waitlist and your first month is free. Refer a friend and answer a couple of quick questions to earn an extra month free. Help us build the app you have always wanted. Nothing is charged until we open and you choose to start. When you start, you add your card, but nothing is charged until your free month ends (or your second one, if you earned it). Cancel before then and you pay nothing.
Is my bank data safe?
Yes. The bank connection is read-only, so Paagaa can see your transactions to sort them, and can never move your money. You log in on your own bank's page, so we never see your password, and you can disconnect at any time.
Are the money guides free?
Properly free. No account, no email, no “enter your details to read the rest”.
